Kandi Pachadi / Tur daal Chutney

Kandi pachadi is an awesome awesome chutney made with Tur daal or kandi pappu. It is flavoured with some simple spices and garnished with some red chilly powder and some roasted garlic.  It is best had with some steamed rice and a helping of ghee.

I am a huge fan of chutneys and pachadis, the best ones are those that can be made with zero pre work. Like no soaking , no chopping. But we have to do a few little things for something so yummy. They are such life savers! a little effort and we are set!

The kandi pachadi or the Tur daal chutney is one such thing, a simple blend literally blend blend blend. So this chutney can be made with different combinations of the same exact ingredients all of the combinations will taste yummy.

What do we need to make the Kandi Pachadi / Tur daal Chutney?
  • Regular yellow daal / Toor Daal
  • Bengal gram / Chana daal
  • Red Chillies
  • Jeera
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Garlic
  • Small piece of coconut

How to make the Kandi Pachadi?

Step 1: Take little oil in a pan and add the garlic to it. Fry till they turn nice and golden brown and keep them aside.

Step 2: In the same pan fry the Tur daal, chana daal, red chillies and fry them till they brown and let them cool down.

Step 3: Grind all this with the coconut, a few of the garlic cloves  and some salt. Save the rest to garnish. I do this because i love to bite into garlic when i am eating this chutney. If you do not like it just grind everything! Add a bit of water to make this to a chutney consistency.

Step 4: Garnish with some red chilly powder and the saved garlic. Serve it with some steamed hot rice and a helping of ghee. This will surely leave you licking your fingers.
