Curry Leaf Powder - Karepaku podi












Curry leaf / Kadi patta / Karepaku... what an amazing herb this is! Useful in so many ways. I remember this amazing amazing curry leaf balls that made my tummy pain go away in no time. This one is like a magic ball that use to cure any kind of tummy pain. 




Recently i read about this hair therapy using curry leaf, just applying the paste or boiling plenty of  curry leaves in coconut oil and strain off the curry leaves, apply this over night 3 times a week and you will see the difference.


Today's recipe is a super simple curry leaf powder which you can have with some hot steamed rice always with a helping of ghee. OR have it with Idli or dosa again with a help of some oil. It tastes amazing with whatever you serve it. 



Curry leaf is not new to anyone and everyone uses it in different ways. This Curry leaf powder is my family's recipe. I love this one , do try it and please leave your comments. 



What do you need to make the Curry Leaf Powder?

  • Plenty of curry leaves 
  • Split Chickpeas/ Chana daal / Senaga pappu 
  • Split black Lentils / Urad Daal / Minapa pappu 
  • Dry Red Chillies 
  • Salt 
  • Dry ginger 
  • Tamarind 
  • Pepper 
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Coriander Seeds 


How to make Curry Leaf Powder? 

Step 1: Wash and dry the Curry leaves. Spread the curry leaves on a nice dry cloth and let it dry fully. Spread them on a  towel and let them dry. Microwave these leaves for 3 to 4 minutes. They will turn nice and crispy. 


Step 2:  Dry fry the Chana Daal, Urad Daal, Red Chillies, pepper corns, cumin Seeds, Coriander Seeds, switch off the flame and add the dry ginger and tamarind. Keep aside and dry fry the curry leaves and let this cool down.



Step 3: Add salt and grind the Mixture to a coarse powder, store it in an airtight container.
