Carom and Curd Chutney

Carom leaves are said to have great benefits, the most popular of the home remedies of carom is treating cold and i must tell you that i have tried it several times  and it works like Magic.

Please look at the end of this post for the Magic tonic that will help you cure cold, bad stomach.

This curd chutney is like filled with flavour and the hint of Ajwain / carom will make this curd chutney different from the others. Serve it with any mixed rice and it will sure be a hit. Curd had its own healing properties and when it s combined with Ajwain it becomes healthy and tasty too.

This like many of my recipes is easy and super quick to make. If you have a carom plant at home you can make the fresh curd chutney anytime you want. The plant can easily grow in a pot in your balcony.

It is unfortunate that the Carom leaf / herb is not that popular with vendors selling vegetables, at least i have not seen it in the vegetable markets in Bangalore at least. May be if we ask the vegetable vendor he can get it for you.

What do you need to make the Carom Curd Chutney?

  • Curd
  • Carom leaves
  • Green chillies
  • Fresh Coconut
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds

How to make the Carom Curd Chutney?

Step 1: If to wash the Carom leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Chop green chillies as per your taste and keep aside. Now in a pan add very little oil and fry them both. let it rest and cool down.

Step 2: Chop up some fresh coconut, you can add more or less as per your taste.

Step 3: In a mixer / grinder add the coconut, shallow fried Carom leaves, shallow fried green chillies and make a fine paste.

Step 4: m all and make a paste and add this paste to a bowl of beaten curd. Try not to add water else the chutney will become too watery.

Step 5: Add little oil in a pan and fry some mustard seeds till they splutter and  pour it over the crud carom and coconut mixture, add salt as per taste and serve.

As promised, the Magic tonic recipe, this is not new to any granny. In a small vessel add a tablespoon of Carom / Ajwain seeds and Cumin / Jeera seeds and let it boil, strain the water and drink up if you are a adult and if you want to feed a kid, give him/ her 2 spoons a day. It will work like MAGIC on the cold.
