Bobbatlu / Puran Poli













Festivals are a time of eating yummy food with no rules! the whole family gets together and you make everyone's favourite dish. A table full of favourites! for some reason there  are more sweet dishes! 

Indian festivals are just amazing, each festival has its own special dish; like Bobbatlu is a special dish made during Ugadhi,  of course  it can be made during any festival..:)   




Bobbatlu or Puran Poli is a very loved ad popular festival preparation. Although there are many varieties of Bobbatlu the basic preparation remains same. I am going to share the most popular variety and once you make this one, all you need to do is to is make the stuffing and follow the same steps.  






What do you need to make Bobbatlu?



  • Maida
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt (just a pinch)
  • Oil
  • Chana daal
  • Jaggery
  • Water


How to make Bobbatlu? 


Step 1: Let is mix the dough, take the All purpose flour /Maida, add a pinch of salt , turmeric powder a little bit of oil and slowly add water to make a super smooth dough. keep aside. 





Note: We will make our dough first and sure that it gets rest for at least 15- 20 minutes. 


Step 2: Cook the chana daal with excess water and strain and mash the daal,lets now cook this with some jaggery.  No water to this please. Keep mixing this till the jaggery melts and the daal mix well and form a semi dry mixture. like shown in the picture. 






Step 3: Divide the dough into small equal parts. Spread the dough into a small round and while holding it in your hand add some of the mixture and carefully close the round, it will now look fat!! now slowly using a rolling pin spread the dough slowly into a round shape. 




Step 4: Roast this on a flat pan with ghee. Turn it slowly and roast it on both Sides.
