Palak Saag






Spinach is one of the most healthy foods and is good for almost everyone! remember Popeye, yes the sailor! how he gobbles up Spinach and gets instant energy. not as exaggerated but it is quite power packed. 

The very popular recipes made with palak , the most popular of all is the Palak Paneer , the dry palak sabzee , aloo palak, Palak Pakodas..... that list is endless. 


And then there is this one dish that my Mother In Law makes; This is like a a soup, has brilliant colour and is filled with Palak to bits. I love drinking this just that way. It goes amazingly well with Roti, Chapati or any types of bread. 


What do you need for this Soupy Palak? 

  • Palak / Spinach
  • Onions
  • Water as required
  • Salt
  • Jeera
  • Oil for Tadka
  • Mustard seeds
  • Urad Daal (Minapa pappu)


How to make the simple Palak Saag ?

Step 1: Wash the Palak thoroughly and chop them roughly and drop them in boiling salt water; just enough water. Switch off the gas and leave the palak to cool.

Step 2:  Grind the Palak and keep aside.

Step 3: Let us make our special Tadka! Add little oil to the pan, once hot add Urad daal and fry till they turn golden brown then goes in the Jeera wait for them to start dancing! :) now add a pinch of hing and mustard seeds ; Wait for the mustard seeds to dance. Add finely chopped onions and fry till they turn translucent. Switch off the Gas and add it to the Palak we just whipped up. 

That is it! can anything be more simple? really? super simple and super healthy! serve it with some hot phulka's !
