Besan ki Chutney / Bombay Chutney

Today i am going share with you an awesome Dish! you can serve this with any type of paratha, poori or even dosa. This my no fail rescue recipe. Not only do i make it when i run out of vegetables but also make it as an accompaniment for my Aloo Parathas. In fact i love to make it and have it just as some soup.

The besan chutney is also referred to as Bombay chutney.  Can be made with simple ingredients make available at home. This recipe is my cook's special one, she makes it super quick and a sure shot hit. We call it Besan chutney but it is like a gravy , filled with flavours.

What do you need to make the Besan Chutney?
  • Gram flour (Besan/ Senaga pindi)
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • FInely chopped Onions
  • Mustard seeds
  • Urad Daal
  • Asafoetida
  • Water

How to make Besan ki Chutney?

Step 1:  In a wide mouth Bowl, add the gram flour, salt, Chilli powder, pinch of hing and mix these dry ingredients , to this slowly add water and make a flowing batter. Let this rest for 5 minutes.

Step 2: Take some oil in a pan and wait for it to heat up, add cumin seeds and fry till they splutter; add the curry leaves and fry for 2-3 minutes. Then drop in the thinly sliced onions and fry till they turn translucent.

What is translucent? We keep hearing this word translucent , today i want to explain for the benefit of those who do not know it. Translucent is when the onions start to limp and not brown.

Step 3: Add the besan batter to the onions and 2 table spoons of curd and cook all this till it boils once. Check the salt levels and at this point adjust it according to your taste. That is it your Besan ki chutney is ready to be served.

I ate mine with the most awesome Aloo da paratha!  you can see the super easy recipe to make Aloo paratha!
