Cheesy Corn on the Cob












Corn on the cob, Butta is among the top 5 popular street food items in India. I have very strong memories attached with everything about the butta, the smell, the cart, the fire flakes flying! evening walks at the park with family and friends. 

 In Hyderabad, along the tankbund you can see kids, adults , elderly almost everyone holding a roasted butta! This Corn on the cob has a special taste because of the way it is made. It is roasted on coal while the butta wala swings his jute fan to keep the heat and keeps constantly turning the corn ensuring it roasts well on all sides. then he swiflt rubs a lemon slice dipped in spices over it and serves it in a corn peal. Absolutely lip smacking 

Traditionally there are 2 types of making corn on the cob. Boil or grill on coal, when we make it at home, we can make it on the small flame side. keeping a close watch to ensure it does not burn, it has to crackle and turn black but should not burn! sounds complicated but is absolutely easy. 




Corn is a brilliant vegetable for more than one reason, it adds a beautiful color to what ever dish the corn Kernels are added to and has immense health benefits too, the most part of nutritional benefits of ccorn are in the kernels and are the most consumed part of the corn cob too. Corn not only provides necessary calories for daily healthy metabolism but also provides vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin E and many other minerals. The most popular fact about corn is its richness in fiber, this helps in preventing digestive ailments like constipation. 

This recipe i am sharing with you is super quick to make and is pleasing to the eye and nose. I have made a bit of twists to my Corn on the cob and hope you like it! Happy to know if you have a variation. I really wanted to make the mexican style corn but did not have the cotija Cheese at home so used the normal amul Cheese and i loved it. 




What do you need to make Cheesy Corn on the Cob?

  • Corn cob (corn with the husk) 
  • Lemon 
  • Salt 
  • Cheese (i used the Amul slices) 
  • Chilli powder. 
  • Chopped coriander 


How to make Cheesy Corn on the Cob? 

Step 1: Peel the cover of the corn carefully till the end , do not break it. will make it easy to hold the corn while you cook it and when you eat it. 

Step 2: while holding the end of the Corn stick put it on your low flame burner and start to roast it. The crackle sound of the corn is an indication that the process in on! 




Step 3: Rub the Lemon slice while you squeeze it gently all over the corn, Sprinkle chilli powder, salt and now add the cheese stirps on the corn, garnish with Chopped corriander and serve hot!
