Mirchi Bajji / Mirchi Bada - Stuffed Chilli Fritters














Mirchi bajji/ Mirchi Bada (Chilli Fritters) a popular road side tea time snack and is loved by one and all. I do not know if it has it's origins in Hyderabad or not but i can tell you that i have tasted the best ones at 2 places in Hyderabad. 





One is at a roadside tapri near my home and the other is at the Agrawala stores at the Annual Industrial exhibition held in December. It is a must visit for our family for the Shopping of course and then the food!! Popcorn and this mirchi bajji. Do try it if you are in Hyderabad in December. So the day i was talking to my mom who was visiting me and we decided to make it! 

Although the main thing in this dish is Chilli it is not that spicy. This is the large variety that is not very spicy and this stuffed ones are awesome. I promise that no one can eat just one, they will all want more! 





What do you need for the Mirchi Bajji / Stuffed Chilli fitters:



  • The big Green Chilli
  • Gram Flour 
  • Rice Flour 
  • Salt 
  • Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • Oil 
  • Turmeric Powder. 


Stuffing: 


  • Grated Dry Coconut 
  • Groundnut 
  • Sesame 
  • Tamarind 
  • Salt
  • Chilli Powder 




How to make the Mirchi Bajji/ Stuffed Chilli Fritters? 


Step 1: Take a wide mixing bowl and add besan (gram flour), Rice flour, salt, pinch of turmeric powder, carom seeds, baking soda. Mix all the dry ingredients well. Slowly add water and make a flowing batter. Adjust your salt levels at this point. Leave this aside for 15 minutes for the baking soda to start acting. 




Step 2: Is to slit the Chilli deseed it and let it rest while we make the stuffing. 




Step 3: Dry fry the groundnut, sesame and coconut all of them separately and grind them. To this add the deseeded tamarind , salt and Chilli Powder and whip it once in the grinder. This step will ensure that all of it blends well. 




Step 4: Stuff this mixture in the slit chilli and keep aside. 



Step 5: Is to dip the stuffed chilli in the batter, ensure it is coated with batter all over and slide it into the hot oil and fry till golden brown.
