Tomato is probably the most loved vegetable!! It is rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin K. There is quite a lot of goodness in tomatoes, apparently just rubbing tomatoes on the skin helps it glow or drinking tomato juice is also very good. My 1 year old has tomato juice (apple +Carrot + tomato) as a part of his everyday diet.
Tomatoes are so versatile, despite the little sour taste you can make so many amazing dishes with them, be it in any gravy, salad (raw) or just in a dall! tomatoes just complement any dish. It is one of those vegetables which is available around the world and across all seasons.
Tomato daal is one of my most popular and favorite dishes! you can make daal tadka, garlic wali tomato daal, or just a plain Jain tomato daal, this version of the daal is super simple and lip smacking! Lets make some yummmy tomato daal!!

How to make the sedeedha saadha Tomato daal!
I am calling it "seedha saadha" because, it is just that! Its is like elementary of daal making.
Step 1: Is to cook plain Daal in a pressure cooker and keep aside. Depending on the quality of the daal , you might have to keep it longer in the pressure cooker, i usually keep it for 4-5 whistles. I also make sure i add generous amounts of water!
Step 2: 'The hing ka Tadka': Add little ghee / Oil to a kadhayi and once its hot add the split black gram fry for a bit; add the split bengal gram, let them fry for a bit and then you add the mustard and cumin seeds. Once all the pulses get a crisp color, add the finely chopped green chilies and the curry leafs. Add hing and fry this awesome tadka. Adding Hing will spread a delicious aroma in your kitchen.
Note : all this should not take more than 2-3 min, do not burn the pulses, if they burn, please start again in a new kadayi. No compromise on the tadka.
Step 3: Once the tadka is ready add the tomatoes, Salt and haldi; (add chilli powder if you like more spice) cook the tomatoes til they mash and you can see the oil separating from the tomatoes. Once that happens add the boiled daal and mix it well. Cook all of this for sometime, once you see The daal is boiling, you can switch off the gas.
Tip: When you add the cooked daal, if the water is too less and the mixture looks like a thick paste, please add some water.
Step 4: Once the daal is cooked garnish with coriander and serve with steamed rice and some homemade ghee. This is an amazing Combination.
P.S: will update the pictures soon. thanks for your patience and understanding.
