Maggi- meri wali (my style)

Maggi! Like most of you, it is the first thing i learned to cook after tea.

The story of how i made Maggi the first time is very interesting! It was during my plus 2 final examinations and because i am not a morning person sat till about 3:00Am to study. IF it was a watching a movie i would not feel hungry but it was a night out for studying...so my stomach was growling with specific Maggie hunger! I am not joking this thing called Maggi hunger is for real, these times only Maggi can solve the problem. I am sure you canunderstand what i am saying.

I was craving for Maggi. Mom was out of station for work and dad was sleeping. Now what do i do?? PHONE a Friend!!

I called my best friend who was also up late revising for the exam! She gave me instructions and i learned to cook it over a phone call. Mobile phones were not that popular and our cordless phone had conked off. So i was running from the kitchen to the phone and making my Maggi. How satisfied and content i felt, i cannot explain. Something i prepared all by myself.  From then to now about 20 years later, i have mastered making Maggie and i love it that.

Let me share with you how i make "Meri wali Maggi".

What do you need to make Maggi?

  • Maggi
  • Grated carrots
  • Chopped Onions
  • Chopped Tomato
  • Peas  (i used the frozen ones)
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • Coriander Powder
  • Oil

How to make Maggi?

Step 1: Is frying the vegetables, in a wok add a little oil, once the oil is hot add the chopped onions and fry till they are translucent (they become transparent), this should take about 2-3 min. Parallel to this I put my peas and grated carrots in the microwave and cooked it for 3-4 min. Now add the Peas and carrots to the onions, mix them well and add the chopped tomatoes and mix all of this.

Step 2: is to add the spices!! Add the Turmeric Powder (Haldi), Coriander powder (Dhaniya powder) and salt. let this cook till the tomatoes ooze oil. I like to add the Maggi masala at a later point and not now. (i have not forgotten that!)

Step 3: Once the vegetables start oozing oil; i.e when you can see the oil separate. This is the time to add water, I add more water than mentioned on the packet for 2 reasons. one is because i have generous amounts of vegetables and the other is i love my Maggi to be soupy! add the Maggi masala (the small sachet that comes with the noodle packet). Wait for the water to boil.

Step 4: Is to break the noodle and add it to the boiling water.

Let the noodles cook in the awesome spice water and vegetables. Mix well and serve hot!!

Eat your noodle and drink the soup! (khaa ke peyoo , ya pee ke khaaoo!)
