Spicy crisps with leftover rice (crispy snack with leftover rice)















Another amazing snack with leftover rice! this one can be stored for 4-5 days. Another deep fry item!!


These Crisps are referred to as "Pappu billalalu"; And this is a very popular festival snack. Each family has their own secret recipe for it! I am showing you what we made with leftover rice and you will love this variation.


What do you need to make Spicy Crisps?
  • Leftover rice
  • Rice flour for binding
  • Handfull of Soaked Bengal gram (Chana daal / senaga pappu)
  • Green chillies 
  • Coriander
  • Very little corn flour (optional) 
  • Salt 
  • Pepper Powder
  • Oil for deep fry
  • Water 
  • Plastic sheet 


How to make Spicy Crisps?

Step 1
: Is to grind the green chillies,coriander keep aside.


Step 2:  Let us get the dough for the crisps ready. Take your leftover rice in a bowl and mash it well. (You can mash it with your hand or use a masher, do not grind). Add soaked bengal gram, green chilli coriander past, rice flour,  Corn flour, salt and mix well. Add Little water and kneed it into a soft dough.








Step 3 Grease a plastic sheet with oil and place a small portion of the dough on it and press it with your fingers to make a flat round shape. Similarly make small round shapes of the rest of your dough.





Step 4: Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the crisps! Serve this with a dip of your choice.

Hi Vasan,

Sorry for the late reply. The reason for adding rice flour is to bind the rice and make easy dough also Rice flour adds a nice crispness to the dish :)

For 2 cups of cooked rice you can add about 3 table spoons of rice flour and handful of soaked Bengal gram. If adding corn flour add 1 table spoon. I hope it helps!
