Dhokla Manchurian





In my previous post i showed you how to make Dhokla with Idli batter,  In this post i will show you how to make your Dhoklas more interesting. Lets make some Chinese style Dhokla Manchurian. This makes for an amazing evening snack with some nice Adrak Chai! 

Dhokla is a Steamed dish and a no onion no garlic dish, In this recipe we have tried something different. It is different in many ways because we will be making this with leftover batter. 


What do you need to make Dhokla Manchurian: 
  • Leftover Idli Batter 
  • Chickpea flour
  • Finely chopped tomatoes
  • Finely chopped Onions
  • Finely chopper spring onion Greens.
  • Finely chopped green chilly 
  • Finely chopped Coriander
  • Finely chopped Garlic
  • Soy Sauce
  • Chilly Sauce
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Citric Acid
  • Chilly powder
  • Fruit salt
  • Oil
  • Salt


How to make Dhokla Manchurian:  


Let us Start by making our Dhokla batter. In a large bowl take the Idli batter and chick pea flour, salt, chilly powder, fruit slat and mix well and keep aside for 15-30 minutes. While this gets set and ferments lets take a flat bowl and grease it with some desi ghee/ butter. Spread the batter evenly and steam it without the whistle for 15-20 minutes. (just like you steam the Idli). Take the Steamed cake out and let it cool down. It is important that you let this cool down before you cut cubes else the mixture will break and become powder. 







Lets now go to the cake that we left to cool down. Cut nice cubes of this and shallow fry the cubes and keep aside. 

In the same pan add a little oil and fry the onions, garlic, tomatoes and the spring onion greens, to this add 1 table spoon each of Soy sauce, chilly sauce, tomato sauce and fry this mixture well, add some salt and mix well. As a final step add the cubes and fry well, make sure the cubes mix well with the mixture. Garnish with coriander and serve hot!
