Deep fried Gold coins!

I am so excited to share this absolutely interesting recipe, these coins came out so well that all of it finished in just 5 minutes. I assure you these will fly off the plate at your home!

Rice is staple food in India and these days one pot meals are becoming very popular as they save time and are healthy. These one pot meals are quick and easy to make when you have guests at home.

I have an interesting Starter / Snack with leftover rice (Plain or mixed rice) These will come in handy for a kid who is fussy with rice eating. In the below recipe i deep fried my coins only because i was running shot of time; the coins will taste as good even when shallow fried. (Just need to have little time on hand for shallow fry).

What you need to make Deep Fried "Rice Coins"??

  • Leftover rice (plain / mixed)
  • Wheat flour
  • Garam Masala
  • Jeera powder
  • Chili powder
  • Cumin seeds
  • Finely chopped onions
  • Finely chopped Garlic
  • Finely chopped green chills
  • All purpose flour (Maida)
  • Water
  • Bread crumbs
  • Vegetables of choice if using plain rice.
  • Soy Sauce (optional)
  • Chilly sauce (optional)

I had some leftover tomato rice from the morning which turned into yummmy rice coins! I wanted t o make the coins interesting so i topped them with some Green peas and corn.

How to make Deep fried Rice coins:

Step 1 Lets start with the base for our coins. In a bowl take the leftover rice Add very finely chopped vegetables if using plain rice. (I am adding some green peas and corn); Mash all this and mix well. Now add some wheat flour, salt, Garam Msala,  Jeera powder, green chillis and bind all this by adding very little water. It will now start to look like dough to make poori or roti. At this point you can taste the dough and add spices accordingly.

Step 2 is to make long tube shape with this dough  and steam them. i used the electric rice cooker. i put some water in the container below and placed my dough tubes on top in the bowl provided. you can use a normal pressure cooker as well. let it steam for 20-30 min. leave till it cools down.

Step 3 take a pan and add some oil; to this add the cumin (Jeera) once the seeds start to crackle and the chopped garlic and onion, salt and fry well. Time to add Soy sauce and chilly sauce.

Step 4 Is to mix the all purpose flour in water and make a fine paste, we will use it to coat our coins, which will help in the bread crumbs sticking to the coins. keep the binding paste and bread crumbs close by.

Your coins will look like this after you dip them in the binding paste and coat them in bread crumbs.

Step 5 is to fry the coins! take the tubes out and cut them in to fine coins, dip in the binding paste (all purpose flour) an then in bread crumbs and deep fry.

Step 6 is to add these to the fried onion garlic mixture and toss well! serve hot and gobble them up! These coins are nicely spiced that they do not need a dip.
